At the Los Angeles premiere of A24’s “Eddington,” Emma Stone once again proved why her interviews are as entertaining as her films.
The Oscar-winning actress recently sat down with Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show," where she revealed which of her costars she believes might actually be from another planet. And without missing a beat, she named Willem Dafoe.
“Obviously Willem Dafoe!”
When asked who she suspects could be an alien living among humans, Stone immediately responded, “Willem Dafoe. Hundred percent.” Her quick answer caught Colbert off guard. “You didn’t even have to think about that,” he said, to which Stone replied, “It’s so simple. I mean, don’t you—of course.”
She went on to explain her reasoning with a grin: “If it was like, Willem Dafoe’s actually an alien, everyone would be like, ‘Yeah! Obviously. And a great one!’” Laughing, she added, “If they’re all like Willem, bring ‘em on! Land upon Earth, please!”
Colbert couldn’t resist joining in, calling Dafoe “an alien in a very well-fitted man suit.” Stone agreed with a smile, adding, “My favorite alien.”
Their Out-of-This-World Connection

Stone and Dafoe have shared the screen before, building a unique creative bond over the years. The two starred together in two Yorgos Lanthimos films — “Poor Things” in 2023, which earned Stone her second Academy Award, and “Kinds of Kindness” in 2024. Their professional chemistry and quirky on-screen energy have become something of a signature pairing for the director’s darkly comic style.
Interestingly, both actors also have a link to the Spider-Man universe. Stone played Gwen Stacy, the ill-fated love interest of Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker, while Dafoe brought to life the unforgettable Norman Osborn, also known as the Green Goblin, in the Tobey Maguire-led series. Their crossover in both arthouse cinema and superhero franchises makes this alien theory all the more fun for fans.
Preparing for “Bugonia”
The alien talk didn’t just come out of nowhere. Stone’s latest film, “Bugonia,” explores the story of a woman abducted by two men who suspect she’s not human. In preparation for the role, Stone made a bold change—she shaved her head. To keep the new look under wraps before the film’s release, she began wearing wigs to public events.
However, as she humorously told Colbert, subtlety wasn’t her strong suit. “The wig looked good, but the whole night I was like, ‘Can you tell it’s a wig?’” she said, mimicking herself nervously tugging at her hairline. “So everyone was like, ‘Yeah, we’re pretty sure she’s wearing a wig since she moved it around a lot.’”

Despite her self-deprecating humor, Stone admitted she actually loved the shaved-head experience. “It felt so good. Taking a shower with a shaved head is unbelievable,” she said with enthusiasm. “And every time you’re thinking, you really run your hand over your head. I miss it!”
Why Fans Can’t Stop Talking About It
Fans immediately took to social media after the interview aired, agreeing with her choice. Dafoe’s distinctive presence and intense performances have long fueled the idea that he’s “not quite of this world” — in the best way possible.
From his iconic portrayal of the Green Goblin to his haunting performance in “Poor Things,” Dafoe brings a magnetic, almost supernatural energy to his roles. So when Stone called him an alien, audiences nodded in agreement rather than disbelief.
Emma Stone’s hilarious exchange with Stephen Colbert perfectly captured her quick wit and admiration for Willem Dafoe. Her playful comment turned into a viral fan favorite, celebrating the duo’s unique bond on and off screen.
And honestly, if aliens are anything like Dafoe, as Stone said, “Land upon Earth, please!”
